Corfu is an island in the Ionian sea that can boast about being the home to many Greek beaches with blue flag certification. For 2019, there are at least 10 blue flag beaches Corfu can be proud to call its own, and two of those bear the Mayor Hotels name. It is a priceless thing to have the right management system in place that secures the environmental and bathers’ protection. The world-renowned Blue Flag award is something every beachfront hotel should aspire to receive, as it has been observed that this greatly affects guests’ holiday decisions, and rightly so. Staying at a hotel that has one of the Greek beaches with blue flag award as its permanent shore, gives guests the peace of mind of knowing their custom means they are part of a sustainable tourism model.
For 2019, 515 Greek beaches with blue flag were identified, making up of 12% of the world’s total. Of the 47 countries that participated in the evaluation, Greece came up in second place worldwide.
The Blue flag beaches Corfu can boast about, include Kontogialos beach and Kavos beach for 2019. Kontogialos beach means our Mayor Pelekas Monastery beach is one of the Greek beaches with Blue Flag while the other is found at our family resort of Mayor Capo Di Corfu. The awarded, Blue Flag beaches Corfu features must check the box of not just a handful, but 33 criteria that safeguard the environmental protection of the shore as well as ensure bathing water cleanliness. Especially regarding the latter, the quality of the swimming water must be at ‘excellent’ levels in order for the Blue Flag to be awarded.
This is not the first certification received for either of the aforementioned beaches. These two beaches received the Blue Flag & Green Key certifications for Mayor Hotels in 2018, and continue to offer international levels of ecological preservation.
